Beschrijving
In the heart of woodland at the top of a hill, le Domaine de La Paille Basse is a medieval village entirely restored according to the local architecture. The three farms which composed this hamlet now have all the modern facilities to guarantee a comfortable stay. Half-way between the caves of Lascaux and the pilgrimage fortress of Rocamadour, in the heart of the Dordogne lowlands, is the campsite of Domaine de la Paille Basse, laid out like an open-air hotel in a characterful old village. This French campsite offers you the full range of comforts and activities that you’d expect of a quality holiday park. There’s a lovely, large swimming pool with slides and separate toddlers’ pool; a playground; various sports options (tennis, basketball, volleyball and far more besides); and fun entertainment for every age range, including a mini-club, night-time markets and themed evenings. There’s even a disco! Domaine de la Paille Basse also boasts a bar, restaurant, pancake café, on-site shop selling fresh bread, games hall, launderette and library: no shortage of great amenities!
Domaine de la Paille Basse sits in a fantastic location high in the Dordogne hillside. The area is popular with those looking for an active holiday with lots to explore and discover in the surrounding area. Many trails for hikers and bikers run directly from the campsite which is a great way to explore the local area.
The area surrounding the campsite is very rural but still within easy driving distance of local landmarks. One of the most popular ways to see the Dordogne is from the river. Hire a canoe and enjoy a leisurely paddle through the stunning surroundings. There is an 18 hole golf course nearby and also stables if you fancy exploring the area on horseback. For the water-lovers in the family there’s a large aquapark called Quercyland just a few miles from the campsite.
Although the prehistoric art in the caves at Lascaux has had to be closed to public viewing since 1963, you can visit reconstructions at Lascaux II to gain a fair impression of the surprising richness and beauty of what mankind was capable many thousands of years ago. Staying at Domaine de la Paille Basse is also a great opportunity to discover the sumptuousness of Dordogne cuisine. The legendary highlights are foie gras (fattened goose liver pâté), duck, truffles and Cahors wine.
