Campsite Le Capeyrou, Dordogne
Le Capeyrou a small and intimate parc is set on the banks of the Dordogne River, beneath a majestic cliff-top castle made of limestone (make sure you take a guided tour!).
On parc, there are only 100 tent pitches, thanks to its designation by the French government as a protégée (protected) area, therefore providing the ultimate relaxing retreat. It's luxurious camping only at this parc, as you'll stay in one of the safari tents and it won’t be long until you've settled in, thanks to the parc's welcoming and friendly owners. While there is no restaurant or shop on site, you definitely won't go hungry because you can take a trip to a restaurant at neighbouring Auberge (50 metres away) that serves tasty local produce. And there is also a supermarket across the road. Once you've taken a dip in the classic, rectangular pool you might fancy making the most of the stunning, natural surroundings, so why not hop in a canoe and paddle your way down the Dordogne?
The underground cave Gouffre de Proumeyssac is one of several in the region, and is worth a visit for its beauty. Less than 30km away is pretty Le Bugue where you will find Aquarium Perigord Noir, the area’s flagship aquarium. There are also many châteaux in the area, including Château de Milandes which is an easy drive away, where you can explore the lovely gardens and watch one of the regular bird of prey shows.
