campsite Siblu Le Bois Masson, Pays de la Loire / Vendée
Le Bois Masson is one of the largest and liveliest holiday villages in the Vendée, with indoor and outdoor pools and slides and a popular bar and restaurant complex. Superb sandy beaches (2 miles) and the seaside town of St-Jean-de-Monts are a short drive. Le Bois Masson is sister parc to Le Bois Dormant, just a stones throw away. Great news for you, because you can enjoy the best of both distinctive locations.
And if the seaside setting and pools aren’t relaxing enough, you could also enjoy a session at Le Bois Masson’s very own health and wellbeing centre, with massages, a sauna and reflexology treatments on offer. New for 2013: revamping the indoor and outdoor pools at Le Bois Masson to restyle the pool-sides and add a new heating and air extraction system for the indoor pool, making the area even more comfortable for our guests.
Le Bois Masson is packed with sports and activities for all the family, including fully lifeguarded heated indoor and outdoor pools, a health and wellbeing centre with massage, sauna and reflexology available, three free children's clubs and a variety of sports. There is free evening family entertainment, including shows and visiting artists. Bike hire and a restaurant.
Places to visit in the area:
St Jean-de-Monts
A beautiful sandy beach, which the locals consider one of the most stunning in France (if not the world). If you can wrench yourself and the family from your favourite spot on the sand, it also has great watersports. Or if you or your children fancy yourselves as the next Jamie Oliver, then hot-foot it to the Saturday morning market a couple of miles away for superb fresh produce.
St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie
Famed for its fresh sardines. Look for the vintage ones (sardines millésimées) which are supposed to be laid down like fine wine! Even the canned variety are treated with respect. For children with short attention spans there is a tiny museum, the Maison du Pêcheur, which used to be a fisherman’s cottage (approx 10 miles).
Island life
Escape the mainland for a short time to admire the small island of Noirmoutier. Give your children a taste of the past with the old-fashioned bathing huts or they can relax on the unspoilt beaches (Bois de La Chaize is the prettiest), clamber around the ruins of the 7th century monastery or get wet at the Oceanile waterpark (approx 15 miles).
Lazing by the lake
Apremont, half an hours drive away, is a pretty village with a medieval castle, a large lake and a sandy beach. You can hire pedalos, flat-bottomed boats and canoes to paddle leisurely around the lake. Once you’ve worked up an appetite you can justify trying out the bar and restaurant which have stunning views over the lake.
