La Grand' Métairie

Set in the heart of the sun-drenched Vendée but away from the busy coast, this is a medium size campsite with all the facilities you would expect including a fun pool paradise. La Grand'Métairie is located in the centre of the village Saint Hilaire-la-Foret, only five kilometres from the beaches on the Vendée. The ones in Saint Vincent-sur-Jard are the closest, but don't be surprised if your children prefer to stay in the campsite's large pool complex instead.

In addition to a heated outdoor pool and a children's pool, there's an indoor pool and a seperate pool with water-rapids through the 'rocks' and a waterfall. It's great fun! Although medium in size, the campsite still has a tennis court, sports ground, fitness room and a playground for small children.<

The flat Vendée countryside is perfect for family cycle trips. The Longeville forest beside the coast is ideal for this type of outing. There's also the good beaches where you can stop for a break. At the end of the forest is La Tranche-sur-Mer lighthouse that overlooks the La Rochelle bay. If you are interested in French history visit the majestic house of statesman Clemenceau in Saint Vincent-sur-Jard. The region's capital, La Roche-sur-Yon, is only 35 kilometres away. The theme park Puy du Fou is slightly further away and is a superb day trip for the whole family.
