Camping MiO is a small, rustic and green campsite with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Thanks to their generous size, the spacious pitches offer plenty of privacy. Don’t have your own camping equipment? That is no problem at all. You can also enjoy glamping in Saxony here by simply booking one of the fully erected and practically furnished safari tents.
MiO is a special campsite for individual travellers and families
In the middle of the campsite you will find a converted wooden barn, also known as the “Esswerkstatt” – rustic on the outside, cosy and modern on the inside. Guests meet here, play games, chat and relax together. Camping MiO also offers a bread roll and breakfast service. You will also find a bookcase and information about the local area. From time to time, Camping MiO also organises art exhibitions and concerts. For self-caterers, the nearest shopping centre is only 3 kilometres away.
Walking, cycling and discovering exciting days out
MiO stands for “Made in Ottendorf”. Lichtenau-Ottendorf enjoys an idyllic setting, while also being well placed for reaching many attractions. On hot days, the open-air swimming pool in Lichtenau-Garnsdorf is a great place to cool off, with a swimmers’ pool and a children’s pool with baby slides. From the campsite, you can walk into the wild and romantic Zschopau Valley. Lake Kriebstein, a beautifully situated reservoir, is ideal for walking and cycling. A little further downstream, the impressive Kriebstein Castle rises high above the River Zschopau.
Sonnenlandpark is also nearby, combining wildlife and amusement
Who dares to take on Germany’s tallest slide tower? The giant swinging ship and the “Wellenflieger” chair-o-plane also promise plenty of thrills. Children will be fascinated by the nearly 200 animals, the petting zoo, and the chance to become little builders with mini diggers and cranes. And if the weather is less kind, the fun continues indoors at the park’s IN-Sola indoor play area.
Discover the cultural cities of Saxony
Visit Chemnitz (16 kilometres away), which was known as Karl-Marx-Stadt during the GDR era, and be surprised by its many museums, including the art museum, the Saxon Railway Museum, the Museum of Industry and the “smac”, the State Museum of Archaeology. A central meeting point in Chemnitz, and a popular selfie spot, is the huge Karl Marx head sculpture. Or take a stroll through the historic centre of the cathedral and mining town of Freiberg, which lies 37 kilometres from Camping MiO.
To Dresden, Leipzig or the Golden City of Prague
Among Dresden’s many highlights – also known as “Florence on the Elbe” – are the Zwinger, the Semper Opera House, the Frauenkirche and the Green Vault. Dresden can be reached in around an hour by car. Or visit the city of Bach, the St Thomas Choir, the Book Fair and the Monday demonstrations that helped bring about the end of the GDR: Leipzig is Saxony’s largest city and can be reached in about 75 minutes. Those in search of even more adventure can drive for around two hours on the motorway to the Czech capital Prague, where the Old Town, the castle, Kafka’s house and Charles Bridge await.
