Lozère – Mountains, Gorges and Untouched Nature in Southern France

Lozère is located in the northern part of the Occitanie region and is one of the least densely populated areas of France. The landscape consists of wide plateaus, river valleys and rugged mountain scenery, making it a destination known for its unspoilt natural environment.

Much of the region lies within or close to the Cévennes National Park, one of France’s largest protected natural areas. The park features forests, high plateaus and mountain landscapes with many walking routes. One of the region’s most impressive natural sights is the Gorges du Tarn, where the river cuts through dramatic limestone cliffs.

Small towns such as Mende and Florac provide a base for exploring the surrounding countryside and national park landscapes.

Campsites in Lozère are often located in natural surroundings near rivers or in mountain areas. Visitors can stay on touring pitches or choose from a range of accommodation options. The region is ideal for travellers who enjoy hiking, cycling and outdoor activities in quiet natural landscapes.
